Centre for Care Seminar: Community care workers’ access to hygiene facilities: the right to working conditions which “respect health, safety and dignity”

We will be sharing our research on community care workers’ access to hygiene facilities.

  • Venue: Online
  • Date:  Tuesday 14th May 2024
  • Time: 12:30 to 14:00 BST
  • Register: Centre for Care (Google Form)

Article 31 of the EU Charter of Fundamental rights states that “Every worker has the right to working conditions which respect his or her health, safety and dignity.” Yet, the lack of hygiene facilities available to mobile workers, including community care workers, is a serious health and well-being concern. This presentation will report on a study of mobile workers’ access to hygiene facilities and the challenges of accessing hygiene facilities on the move, mobile workers’ hygiene needs, and where mobile workers are accessing facilities and how this is negotiated. The focus of the presentation will be on community care workers’ hygiene experiences, how the role impacts on their experiences, and the similarities and differences compared to other occupations.

Pint Of Science: On the move and need the loo?

We will be sharing our research on the challenges and barriers of accessing hygiene facilities while working on the move.

  • Venue: Sheffield Tap, Sheffield Train Station, Sheffield S1 2BP
  • Date: 24 May 2023
  • Time: 18:30 to 21:30 BST
  • Register: Pint of Science

Do you worry about finding hygiene facilities when you are out and about? We share findings of our project that investigates the difficulties faced by those working on the move (such as delivery drivers, healthcare workers, gardeners, police) in accessing hygiene facilities. As one mobile worker told us “they don’t think that you don’t get toilet breaks, or there’s nowhere to get a drink”. With an interactive quiz we challenge you to identify where, and when, you can go.
